In “No One Knows What It’s Like to Be the Cab Man,” Ron Meyer shares with us a bit of insight into just exactly what it’s like to be a cab driver in Sussex County, New Jersey.  In the beginning of the book he talks about starting up his business and provides us with a description of the clientele.  “Each day strange and interesting people would grace me with their presence.  I would hear all their problems and stories.  People who were stoned, drunk, downtrodden, divorcees, the elderly, business men and women, famous and not so famous customers, the pathetic and the inspirational…” (p.7) Throughout his employment he encounters a plethora of interesting and unique individuals, and situations that he relays to us in this book through a series of short stories. 

On the cover, Meyer warns that the book does “contain adult content and strong language” and this is not an understatement!  Some of his encounters are described in such detail that you picture a lot more than you really want to see.  This book is definitely, 100%, for adults only!

The stories in “No One Knows What It’s Like to Be the Cab Man” are entertaining and amusing and will completely hold your attention! I had never really thought about the different people and scenarios that a cab driver encounters on a daily basis and found this insider’s view to be extremely interesting.  I think Meyer has experienced and seen everything that he possibly could have in that profession!  One thing is for certain, after reading this book being a cab driver is not a job that I would ever want in a million years.

The book could have used more editing as there were many spelling and grammatical errors throughout.  More defined breaks between the individual stories in the form of spacing and/or bold chapter titles would also have been beneficial.  Despite these flaws, “No One Knows What It’s Like to Be the Cab Man” would be appropriate for those who enjoy crude humor and adult content.  If you are easily offended then the book is not for you!
